The Heroes Are Dead: Crimson Spear is an action-packed fantasy novel. The story is filled with epic battles, dangerous creatures, and unlikely companions. It is a story of courage, survival, and redemption.
Jared Chontow has loved writing stories since he was a kid. What started as a hobby slowly became something much more. Now, he writes fantasy stories filled with action, adventure, and characters readers can remember. Born in New Jersey and now living in Upstate New York, Jared hopes his stories give readers a fun escape and leave them wanting to read more.
Eight months after humanity’s greatest heroes fall against the Demon King, hope is fading fast. Bjorn Erikson, once known as the Crimson Reaper, is called back into battle. With an imprisoned necromancer by his side and the Crimson Spear in hand, he must survive enemy territory and face dangers unlike anything he has known.
A Pre-war man awakens inside a Vault-Tec Vault without having any recollection of how he got there. Only to discover the vault’s dark secret that involves the former residents as well as maybe himself. Armed with his new knowledge how will he survive in this new post-apocolyptic world? And how will his actions impact the greater area as a whole?
This book grabbed my attention pretty quick. Bjorn is a character I really wanted to know more about. Looking forward to seeing where this story goes next.

I really enjoyed this mix of action mystery and fantasy. The Crimson Spear is such a cool idea. Bjorn feels very different from a usual hero. Some moments surprised me too which I liked alot.

If you like fantasy, warriors, and battles, give this story a try. I liked how the story didn’t just throw action at you. There are characters and things happening behind it too.

This is an engaging and well-structured fantasy adventure built around a straightforward but effective moral premise: what obligations does an individual have when possessing the ability to save others? Bjorn Erikson’s reluctance to return to battle gives the protagonist greater depth than the conventional heroic archetype, while his partnership with the necromancer introduces useful moral ambiguity. The magic-nullifying spear is an especially effective element because it prevents magical power from resolving every conflict too easily. The combination of action, mystery, and ethical choices makes this a compelling opening to the series.
